Enjoy biking, walking, roller-blading, bird watching and many other outdoor activities on 39 miles of historic railway converted into a beautiful, paved, recreational, nature trail. A 23 mile equestrian trail parallels the paved trail. The Longleaf Trace is a Rails to Trails conservancy project.

The elegant Saenger Theater houses 1,000 seats, a stage with fly loft, a balcony, dressing rooms, and an orchestra pit. Designed by the famous New Orleans architect Emil Weil and renovated in 2000, the theater accommodates both live performances and film. Since its opening on Thanksgiving Day, 1929, this movie palace has become a local cultural landmark. The Saenger Theater Box office is open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and from two hours prior to all ticketed performances.

Nestled among century-old oaks in nearby Laurel's Historic District is the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. Opened in 1923, the Museum draws 40,000 visitors each year from across the nation with its outstanding collections of European and American art, Native American baskets, English Georgian silver, and Japanese woodblock prints, as well as an extensive art history library.

Alligators, tigers, prairie dogs, antelope, zebra, ostrich, monkeys, servals. tapirs, capybaras, llamas, howler monkeys, macaws, iguanas and a jaguar. The Zoo has a new Education Center and kids of all ages will enjoy riding the carousel or taking a peaceful train ride around the zoo. Nominal admission fee.

The Forrest General Hospital is a 537-bed regional medical center. It consists of a 429-bed acute care facility; Pine Grove, an 88-bed chemical dependency and psychiatric unit; Rehab Resource, a 20-bed rehabilitation unit; Lowery A. Woodall Outpatient Surgery Facility; and Forrest General Home Care. The Hospital serves a 16-county area of Southern Misssissippi.
